Load and Stress Testing

The Load Testing step provides confidence to our customers that their products will perform properly under heavy loads (if it is applicable). And the same time, the Stress Testing is to reveal issues related to the product's performance under extreme/abnormal operating environments (for example: at low system resources) and to quantify the stress level at which a system response time is significantly degraded. A report of all measurements captured during the Test Session will be prepared and delivered to our customer at the end of the Test Cycle to ensure that the system performance satisfies all the requirements listed in the Product Design Specification Document.

Test Examples and Some Key Measurements
Example #1: Telephony system (running high traffic, automatically generated by Ameritec equipment) Example #2: Graphic User Interface ("GUI") application on a multi-user system
  • BHCA (Total Busy Hour Call Attempts)
  • BHCC (Total Busy Hour Call Completion)
  • CCS (Call Completion Success in percentage)
  • CCF (Call Completion Failure in percentage)
  • How many simultaneous users the system can support
  • How many simultaneous transactions the system can support
  • Loading times under various traffic conditions
  • Where bottlenecks are occurring

The two examples above illustrate the general approach to Load and Stress Testing. Other products and functionalities will result in different types of testing, but the basic philosophy is still the same: apply extreme conditions to the product to determine its limits.
